DIET FOR HEART HEALTH

Diet is one of the most important contributors to our health. We are what we eat. We need to learn about the foods that cross our lips to improve our eating habits. Some foods we need eat more of, others we are probably better of without.

We need to greatly reduce or eliminate unhealthy fats. Saturated fats and transfats raise your cholesterol which will clog your arteries and cause stroke and heart disease. It is better to choose monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. When choosing proteins get them from a low fat source such as skinless poultry, fish and legumes.

You can't ever get better nutrition than from fruits and vegetables, so include lots of them in your diet.

When possible always opt for unprocessed foods. In baked goods or pastas look for whole grains, they will have more natural minerals, vitamins and fibre rather than added nutrients which are not as good.

Have a well balanced diet, varied and in moderation, your body will love you for it.
