CURCUMIN (Curcuma longa)

Curcumin is an extraction of dried Turmeric roots, and is a member of the ginger family.

Curcumin is used as a food colouring in mustard, margarine, cheese, curry powder, soft drinks, cakes and candy. It can be used in the kitchen as a cooking spice, or purchased as a supplement.

Curcumin is an inexpensive and safe dietary supplement that protects aging brains due to its powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory agents.

Benefits:
- Curcumin has been shown to reduce amyloid related Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, Huntington disease and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
- Curcumin can extend the lifespan in laboratory mice by 10 to 12%.
- Curcumin binds with metals such as cadmium and lead, reducing their toxicity.
- University of Western Ontario scientists found Treatment with tumeric prevented diabetes related damage to kidneys in rats.
- Toronto's University Health Network released a study in mice that found Curcumin prevented and reversed enlargement of the heart, a precurser to heart failure.
- A 2006 Cleveland Clinical trial of five patients saw their precancerous colorectal polyps decrease in size and number with Curcumin treatment.
- The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center showed promise in the treatment of melanoma, pancreatic and other cancers.
- Curcumin can heal many common ailments such as arthritis, cholesterol, acid reflux, acne, allergies. - Curcumin has antiviral and antifungal properties.

Doses:
As a supplement follow the direction on the label. For acute conditions you can increase the dosage if needed.

Freshly ground turmeric powder can be puchased Indian or Chinese stores. It keeps well in a glass jar. As a trditional Indian Home remedy, add some turmeric powder to a cup of warm water, stir and drink.

Cautions:
Turmeric is considered safe and without any known side effects.
